Recording Covers
Music has always been a part of my life, shaping me in ways I didn’t realize until much later. While I’ve never had extensive formal vocal training, I’ve managed to develop a decent singing voice simply by being immersed in music for so long. In middle school, I was part of my school choir, but I never saw singing as more than a casual pastime. That changed during lockdown when I bought my first ukulele. Learning chords came naturally, thanks to my years of violin practice, and before I knew it, I was spending hours strumming and singing everything from Ed Sheeran to Billie Eilish.
After my board exams, my dad gifted me my first guitar. Determined to teach myself, I turned to YouTube tutorials, and it wasn’t long before I started recording voice memos of my covers. What began as a handful of recordings quickly grew into a collection of over 500, each capturing different versions of songs—some with altered lyrics, others experimenting with strumming patterns, or simply documenting how my voice has evolved over time.
Exploring music through singing and recording has been a refreshing departure from the structured training I’ve always had for the violin. It’s a more intuitive, experimental process—just feeling the music, seeing how it transforms, and letting it resonate in new ways.
Now, I’m hoping to take the next step: writing an original song (I’ve been stuck on that for ages!) and perhaps recording my covers more professionally in a proper studio. It feels like the beginning of something exciting, and I can’t wait to see where this musical journey takes me.
